In the heart of Chicago, amidst the bustling streets and vibrant neighborhoods, a beacon of opportunity emerged from the vision of one man – M.C. Pearson, a veteran with a passion for both creativity and service. The story of the Diversified Media Group (DMG) is a testament to his unwavering dedication to empowering communities and providing a path to prosperity for those often overlooked and marginalized.
M.C.'s journey into the world of graphic design began in an unexpected place – the U.S. Army. As a 25M (25 Mike), he honed his skills in visual communication at the Army’s premier technical school the Defense Information School (DINFOS), learning the art of translating ideas into captivating images that could inspire, inform, and unite. Little did he know, these early experiences would lay the foundation for his future endeavors.
Fast forward thirteen years, and M.C. found himself at the helm of a printing company, deeply troubled by the lack of opportunities available to the youth of his beloved Chicago. Recognizing the dwindling presence of trade programs in local high schools, he embarked on a mission to change the narrative. Partnering with social organizations like The West Side Health Authority and Youth Outreach Services, M.C. opened the doors of his business to the next generation, offering them a glimpse into the world of print and graphic design.
Hundreds of young minds passed through the program, soaking up knowledge like sponges as they learned the ins and outs of graphic design tools like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. But M.C.'s vision didn't stop there. He introduced them to a myriad of print technologies – from sublimation to digital printing – equipping them with the skills needed to thrive in a constantly evolving industry.
As the program flourished, M.C. caught the attention of the State of Georgia, tempting him with an offer to replicate his success in Atlanta. But his loyalty remained steadfast to the children of Chicago. It was then that Gayle Newcomb of the Women’s Innovation Group and Latanya Lowery approached him with a new proposition – to establish The Diversified Media Group, affectionately known as The DMG.
For M.C., the DMG represented more than just another non profit organization; it was a mission-driven endeavor aimed at breaking down barriers and creating pathways to success for underrepresented communities. In an industry where people of color accounted for less than 1.5%, he saw an opportunity to effect real change. From inner-city youth to returning citizens and veterans, M.C. opened his arms wide, welcoming all who sought a chance to thrive.
In his own words, M.C. encapsulated the spirit of the DMG: “There is room in this industry for all of us! No one should be left behind!” His words echoed a sentiment of inclusivity and hope, inspiring others to join him in his quest for economic empowerment.
Today, the DMG stands as a testament to M.C.'s unwavering commitment to his community and his belief in the transformative power of opportunity. As the legacy of the DMG continues to unfold, it serves as a beacon of hope, lighting the way for generations to come. Join us in our mission to empower, uplift, and inspire – together, we can build a brighter future for all.
